Course Description
In 2015, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) published a report describing the need to improve the diagnostic process. Teaching medical students how to use the clinical laboratory is essential to achieve a better future. The aim of this course is to teach students how to properly select laboratory tests and fully understand the meaning of their results. We will discuss what we call "principles" of Laboratory Medicine using case studies ("Pearls") in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc. We also hope that this course will foster stronger and effective collaboration between laboratorians and clinicians of the future.
Where To Report
University Hospital; Department of Pathology; West Pavilion P230. The course is 3 days long and will run Mon-Wed from about 8:00am to 3:00 pm, (sometimes Tues- Thurs) depending on the Director's clinical service responsibilities.
