Course Description The course is designed to offer Rural Medical Scholars and other medical students with a true rural, small town Alabama primary care experience by assignment to a rural preceptor (physician). One week is encouraged for Rural Medical Scholars. Although clinical skills would be fundamental at this stage in the students' careers, the course should expose each student to the art of medicine as each works along side his/her rural preceptor. Certainly there will be opportunity to learn patient care from the science of medicine, but the main thrust of the experience is to showcase the preceptor's role in a rural setting as a clinician and community leader. Students will be located in rural Alabama communities with rural primary care preceptors. A Community and Rural Medicine faculty member will be assigned to each student as a supervisor and will maintain weekly contact with the student and preceptor and visit the site once during the course to monitor progress.
Where To Report First day orientation is at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) - Northeast Medical
Building, Room 1304 and then to rural preceptor site in Alabama.
