Course Description
The goals of this course are to give the student experience in and exposure to emergency room trauma, orthopedic surgical procedures and inpatient care, office orthopedics, and young adult and sports injuries in a college setting. In addition to specific parallel reading in a basic orthopedic text, the course will include: (1) recognition of orthopedic situations by adequate specific history, physical examination, and x-ray evaluation, (2) treatment of outpatient (office and E.D.) orthopedics: contusions, sprains, strains, dislocations, simple fractures, bursitis, tendonitis, back problems, and foot problems, (3) history and physicals and follow-up of hospital patients, (4) application of slings, splints, strappings, tapings, and casts, (5) techniques in use of injections and aspirations of muscles, tendons, bursae, and joints in therapy, and (6) pharmaco-therapy.

Treatment of ontusions, sprains, strains,dislocations, simple fractures, bursitis, tenonits, back problems and foot problems.
History and physicals and follow up of hospital patients.
Become knowledgeable in application of slings, splints, strappings, tapings, and casts.
Techniques in use of injections and aspirations of muscles, tendons, bursae, and joints in therapy.
Evaluation
Evaluation Methods: Pass/Fail
Students will be evaluated on attendance, completion of assigned reading and participation in patient interactions and group discussions.
