Prerequisites
Successful completion of the core internal medicine and surgery clerkships and any clerkship which covers the content material of the requested elective or acting internship course (e.g. Pediatric Clerkship must be successfully completed prior to taking a Pediatric Elective or AI).

Course Description
The purpose of this elective is to instruct the student in the management of emergency situations. The student will participate in the daily activities of the Emergency Department. Reading assignments will be required in the management of the cardiac arrest victim, the multiple trauma patient, and pediatric emergencies, as well as wound healing, suturing techniques, and emergency pharmacology and toxicology. Resuscitation and management of the injured patient will be reviewed in detail. The student will be evaluated on a subjective basis based upon the attending physician's interview with the student and observations of the student's performance.
