Prerequisites Successful completion of the core internal medicine, peds and surgery clerkships and any clerkship which covers the content material of the requested elective or acting internship course (e.g. Pediatric Clerkship must be successfully completed prior to taking a Pediatric Elective or AI).

Course Description The purpose of this elective is to provide more intensive and prolonged exposure to the pediatric conditions seen in an ambulatory setting under the direct supervision of our faculty. Students will be expected to participate in a minimum of 8 general clinics per week. During clinic they will be expected to improve their skills at history taking, doing pediatric oriented exams, and developing possible differential diagnoses for common illnesses. Students will also be expected to improve proficiency at giving age-appropriate anticipatory guidance, utilizing the immunization schedule, and performing common pediatric procedures (hearing and vision screenings, tympanometry, peak flow measurements, pulse oximetry, and injections).

Requirements Attendance at a minimum of 8 half-day clinic sessions per week.

Notes This course may be taken for 2 or 4 weeks of credit. The 2-week option must be taken as an elective. Only 4-week courses are eligible for acting internship credit.
