Prerequisites
Successful completion of the core internal medicine, peds and surgery clerkships and any clerkship which covers the content material of the requested elective or acting internship course (e.g. Pediatric Clerkship must be successfully completed prior to taking a Pediatric Elective or AI).

Course Description
This course will emphasize the following: (1) knowledge of various hypersensitivity reactions with emphasis on immediate hypersensitivity--and mechanisms of mast cell activation and the biological role of the various mast cell--derived mediators in allergic disease, (2) diagnosis and differential diagnosis of common allergic disorders--including allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, acute and chronic urticaria, and drug allergy, (3) evaluation of IgE mediated immunologic disease--by skin testing and in vitro testing, (4) environmental control, (5) pharmacotherapy of asthma, rhinitis, and otitis, and (6) allergen immunotherapy--principles and indications. The student will be evaluated on a subjective basis based upon the attending physician's interview with the student and observations of the student's performance.

Evaluation
