Biographical Sketch 
Emmy K. Bell received her BS in mathematics from Birmingham-Southern College and MD degree from University of Alabama School of Medicine at Birmingham. After completing her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Baptist Health Systems in Birmingham, she served as Chief Medical Resident for 1 year. Dr. Bell joined University of Alabama School of Medicine as a Fellow in Clinical Nephrology and upon completion certified in Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She received a national American Kidney Fund Award for clinical research. She has worked at the University of Alabama Health Systems as a hospitalist and as a physician in the Division of Primary Care before joining the faculty of the Division of Nephrology as Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2004. She obtained a degree in Epidemiology MSPH in Clinical Research and has an interest in statistical relationships in predicting disease outcomes. Her interests include long-term complications of chronic kidney disease, hypertension, environmental factors and disease, and the epidemiology of kidney disease.
