Research/Clinical Interest
Title
Vascular access in dialysis
Description
Dr. Allon has a clinical research interest in clinical dialysis, and in particular in vascular access for hemodialysis. He was a P.I. at UAB for the NIH-funded HEMO Study. This was a multi-center randomized clinical trial (1994-2002) evaluating the effect of dialysis dose and dialyzer flux on mortality and hospitalizations in hemodialysis patients. He is also a P.I. in the ongoing NIH-funded Dialysis access Consortium. This is a multicenter, randomized clinical trial evaluating pharmacologic intervention to reduce the failure of arteriovenous fistulas and grafts in hemodialysis patients. He also has a K-24 grant from NIDDK to study vascular access in hemodialysis. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts on various aspects of vascular access, including editorial reviews. Finally, he has been an invited speaker at several national nephrology meetings on various topics related to vascular access.
