Biographical Sketch 
Dr. Whelan is a graduate of the the University of Virginia and the University of South Carolina's School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and then moved to Birmingham where she completed her fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology here at UAB. In addition she also completed her Master's of Science in Public Health in 2006 at UAB. Dr. Whelan is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. She is the Director of fellowship training for the division. In addition, she is currently the Medical Director of the Taking on Life after Cancer survivorship clinic and is the institutional principal investigator for the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study. The focus of her research is the late effects of cancer therapy.

Description
Dr. Whelan's research focus is on the health outcomes of childhood and adolscent cancer survivors. She is the medical director of the Taking on Life after Cancer clinic at UAB and is also the institutional principal investigator for the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS).
