Biographical Sketch 
Ashley C. Nichols, MD, grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. She attended Baylor University where she received her undergraduate degree as a University Scholars major with an emphasis in Medical Humanities and spent her non-academic time working for Young Life Ministries. She then entered University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas for her graduate studies where she was probably best known for her musical role in their senior film. During her time in medical school, her interest in palliative care prompted a summer fellowship through the American Medical Student Association in End of Life Care. Her residency training in Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics brought her to the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2006. She completed her training in 2010 and subsequently stayed for her fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine as our first fellow with an emphasis in pediatrics. Graduating in 2011, she joined our clinical faculty in July at the UAB Center for Supportive and Palliative Care with roles on both our inpatient service and in our outpatient Supportive Care and Survivorship Clinic as well as at Children's of Alabama on their Palliative & Supportive Care Team. Additionally, she works as an embedded palliative care provider in a multidisciplinary muscular dystrophy clinic in which she also serves as camp doctor each summer. In December of 2012, she became Medical Director for inpatient palliative services at UAB and serves on our Palliative Care Leadership Center team; in addition, she directs our Clinical Training Academy and serves as our Medical Student Education Coordinator.
