Biographical Sketch
Rui Zhao is an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. Dr. Zhao received his B.S. degree from Beijing University in China (1998) and Ph.D. degree from the University of Iowa (2004). He received his postdoctoral training in Dr. George Daley’s laboratory at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School, and joined the UAB faculty in 2012.
Research/Clinical Interest
Title
Regulation of Self-renewal and Pluripotency in Pluripotent Stem Cells
Description
The research of my lab will focus on the biology of pluripotent stem cells (PSCs). We would like to understand how PSCs remain to be PSCs (self-renewal), how terminally differentiated somatic cells become iPSCs (reprogramming) and how disease-specific iPSCs recapitulate human disease progression in tissue culture dishes (disease modeling).
